It serves as the epicenter of the old town, surrounded by the Cathedral of Lima (St. John the Apostle and Evangelist) the Municipal Palace and Archbishop’s Palace, The Magistrate House (Casa del Oidor) and the Government Palace. Meet with a local shaman in the Sacred Valley for truly spiritual experience, awakening the mind, body, and soul as the denizens of these mountains have for centuries.
You will witness and participate in one of the most meaningful experiences in the Andes, a Payment to the Earth. The basis of the Inca worldview was Pachamama, the Earth Mother. She was the source of life. Without her, there would be hunger and death which is why the Pachamama or goddess of fertility was worshiped. The payments to the earth consisted of thanking the gods of nature for fertility and asking for their blessing for the coming year's crops.

Sit back and enjoy the spectacular landscapes of the majestic Andes, lush green fields and bright villages. The final portion of the spectacular rail journey to Machu Picchu follows the Vilcanota river down the impressive Canyon of the Vilcanota until it reaches Km 104 station.

Inspired hike to Machu Picchu
Disembark the train at kilometer 104 and hike the last portion of the Inca Trail with your personal guide and porter, passing the marvelous ruins of Wiñay Wayna on your way the Sun Gate.
You will have a mostly flat walk to the Sun Gate, from which you have your first view of Machu Picchu! The last 45 minutes down from the Sun Gate provide many opportunities to take more photos of Machu Picchu from this unique vantage point. The overall hike is approx. 6-7 hours with moderate elevation gains. There is no better way to come upon this ancient city in the clouds than to hike the path of the Incas!
You will make a stop for a gourmet packed lunch. If you need assistance in carrying your things there will be a porter available to help you with the load.

The Ruins of Sacsayhuaman
You'll make a brief stop to get an understanding of the human history of the area at the ruins of Sacsayhuaman. It is believed that construction began here during the government of Inca Pachacutec in the 15th century. Supposedly, more than 20,000 men extracted the stones from the nearby quarries and moved it over 12 miles to the hill of the city of Cusco. How exactly did the Incas build Sacsayhuaman with stones of such an immense weight and size at the time? Many questions remain a mystery. Therein lies the beauty of this archaeological site and the Incan people. At the end of your time here, you will depart for your hotel in the valley to get settled and relax.

Weaver Demonstration
Continue your private transfer to Cusco (approx. 2 hours). Along the way, visit the Chinchero weaving center to meet the Callanaupa family and enjoy a traditional weaving demonstration. The Callanaupa sisters have organized talented local women into a weaving cooperative, helping them to support their families while dedicating themselves to their culture’s weaving patterns.
